These Terms of Use govern the use of www.bookiverse.online (“Bookiverse”, “we”). By creating an account or using the website, you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you use Bookiverse on behalf of a school, company or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms on its behalf.
Bookiverse's policies are aligned with international best practice in data protection, consumer protection, electronic commerce and online education. In particular, they take into account the principles and requirements of:
- European Union: the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, “GDPR”);
- United States: the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and, where schools use Bookiverse, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA);
- International organisations: UNESCO's guidance on protecting learners' privacy and data security in education (Minding the data, 2022), UNICEF's Children's Rights and Business Principles, and the Guidelines for Industry on Child Online Protection issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNICEF.
1.The service
Bookiverse is an English reading platform. It offers graded readers, a phonics programme, intensive reading, vocabulary activities, songs, games and placement tests, organised by CEFR level. Part of the library is open to everyone free of charge; a subscription opens the full library. An account adds a record of books read, activities, results and time on task.
Bookiverse is operated by Imed Sdiri, sole proprietor, trading as Bookiverse (“Bookiverse”, “we”). Contact: info@bookiverse.online.
2.Accounts
- Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
- An account is for one person. Parents may add profiles for their own children within their account.
- Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for the activity in your account. Tell us promptly at info@bookiverse.online if you suspect unauthorised use.
- Accounts are opened by adults. A person under 18 may open an account only with the permission of a parent or guardian, and children under 13 should use Bookiverse only through a child profile or an account provided by their teacher or school.
- Parents and guardians are responsible for the child profiles they create and for supervising their children's use of the internet.
3.Free access and subscriptions
- The free library can be used without an account. A free account records progress on free content.
- A subscription gives access to the full library and records progress for the subscription period. The plans and prices are shown on the Pricing page and again before you pay.
- Individual subscriptions are sold online through Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record, which handles payment, invoicing and sales tax. Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase. Prices are in US dollars and exclude VAT or other sales tax, which is added at checkout where it applies.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period (6 months or 1 year) at the price then in force, until it is cancelled. You can cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the period already paid for, and no further payment is taken.
- Classrooms for teachers and licences for schools and organisations are provided by quotation. Write to info@bookiverse.online or use the request form on the Pricing page.
- A subscription is personal to the account and its profiles. It may not be shared, transferred or resold.
- When a subscription ends, access to subscriber content ends. The dashboard remains available, read-only, for 60 days; the learning records of the subscription period are then deleted, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Refunds follow our Refund Policy, Paddle's refund policy and the consumer protection law that applies to you. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country of residence.
4.Schools, teachers and organisations
Access for classes, schools and companies is provided under a separate agreement. The organisation is responsible for obtaining any consent required from its learners or their parents, and for the use of the data it can see. Where the agreement and these terms differ, the agreement prevails.
5.Acceptable use
When using Bookiverse, you agree not to:
- share your sign-in details or give others access to subscriber content through your account;
- copy, download in bulk, scrape, republish, distribute or sell Bookiverse content, or use it to train artificial intelligence models;
- bypass or interfere with access controls, or alter scores or learning records;
- disrupt the service, overload it, or attempt to access accounts or systems without authorisation;
- impersonate another person, or enter offensive or unlawful content in names or messages.
6.Intellectual property
The texts, illustrations, audio, activities, games, tests and design of Bookiverse are owned by Bookiverse or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The name and logo “Bookiverse” may not be used without our written permission.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the content for your own learning, for your children's learning, or for teaching your own classes. Printing worksheets for these purposes is permitted. Any other use requires our written permission.
The names CEFR and IELTS are used only to describe levels. Bookiverse is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Council of Europe or the owners of IELTS.
7.Results and level estimates
Scores, CEFR level estimates and IELTS band estimates shown on Bookiverse are indicative. They are provided to guide learning and the choice of reading material. They are not official qualifications or certificates and should not be used as the only basis for decisions about admission, placement or employment.
8.Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep Bookiverse available at all times, but access may be interrupted for maintenance, updates or reasons outside our control. We may add, change or withdraw content and features. If a change significantly reduces the content available to subscribers during their subscription period, we will take reasonable steps to limit its effect on them.
9.Suspension and closure
You may stop using Bookiverse at any time and request the deletion of your account from your dashboard. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, after notice where appropriate. Personal data is then handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
10.Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Bookiverse is provided with reasonable care and skill, but, to the extent permitted by law, without warranties of uninterrupted availability or of particular learning outcomes.
To the extent permitted by law, Bookiverse is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and its total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, or the statutory rights of consumers.
11.Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the applicable law. If you use Bookiverse as a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence and may bring a claim in its courts where that law allows. Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at info@bookiverse.online so that we can try to resolve the matter amicably.
12.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version. We will inform account holders of significant changes by email or by a notice on the website before they take effect. If you do not accept the updated terms, you may stop using Bookiverse and request the deletion of your account.
