Extensive Reading Program
Learning a new language, like English, involves learning many new words – this is called vocabulary. Building your vocabulary is essential for understanding, speaking, reading, and writing. Here are some useful tips to help you learn and remember new English words.
Read Regularly
Reading is one of the best ways to find new words. Start with simple texts, like children's stories, comics, or articles on websites for learners (like this one!). If you don't understand some words, try to guess their meaning from the context. You can also look up important or interesting words in an online dictionary.
Use a Notebook
Keep a vocabulary notebook. When you learn a new word, write it down. Don't just write the word and its translation. Also write an example sentence showing how to use the word. You could also add information like if it's a noun, verb, or adjective, or draw a small picture.
Learn Words in Groups
It's often easier to remember words if you learn them in groups related to a topic. For example, learn words about food, clothes, animals, or hobbies together. You can also learn word families, like photograph, photographer, and photography, or words with similar meanings, like nice and good, or opposite meanings, like hot and cold.
Practise Using New Words
Don't just learn words – use them! Try to use new vocabulary when you are speaking or writing in English. Talk to your teacher, classmates, or a language partner. Write short stories or emails. The more you use a word, the better you will remember it.
Be Patient and Consistent
Learning vocabulary takes time. At the A1 and A2 levels, you should learn around 2400 words. Don't try to learn hundreds of words every day. It's better to learn a few new words regularly and practise them often. Review the words you learned yesterday or last week. Consistency is key! Good luck with your learning!
Reading Tips: How to Get the Most from This Book
Read for meaning. Focus on understanding the main ideas rather than every single word. Encountering unfamiliar vocabulary is normal — use context to help you interpret meaning.
Keep a steady flow. Try not to stop too often. Reading continuously improves comprehension and helps you follow the development of ideas more naturally.
Listen and read together. Use the audio version while reading. This strengthens understanding, improves pronunciation, and develops your sense of rhythm and intonation in English.
Read regularly. Short, consistent reading sessions are more effective than occasional long ones. Re-reading sections you enjoy can further reinforce learning.
Engage with the text. Think about what you read. Asking simple questions and reflecting on ideas deepens comprehension and improves retention.
Extensive Reading Program - A2 Level
The Extensive Reading Program helps learners improve their English step by step, from level A1 to level C2. At the A2 level, students read simple texts that are a little longer and more interesting. They learn to understand the main ideas and talk about them with more confidence.
Reading regularly helps students learn new words. For this reason, the books, articles, and stories in this program are carefully written to include useful words and expressions for A2 learners. This helps students learn vocabulary naturally while they read.
Students can use this program by themselves or with a teacher in class. The levels make it easy to see progress, feel proud of improvement, and continue learning English through reading.
