Extensive Reading Program
My dad loves fixing things around the house. His garage is full of tools and equipment. Last weekend, he had a long list of jobs to do.
On Saturday morning, he started by fixing the dripping tap in the kitchen sink. He got his toolbox, which is a big red metal box. He took out a spanner and some other tools I didn't know the name of. He turned off the water supply under the sink first. It took him about half an hour, but soon the dripping stopped. "Job done!" he said, wiping his hands on a cloth.
Next, he wanted to put up a new bookshelf in my bedroom. For this job, he needed different equipment. He used an electric drill to make holes in the wall. It made a loud noise. Then he put special plastic plugs into the holes and used a screwdriver to fix the shelf brackets to the wall with long screws. Finally, he placed the wooden shelf on top. It looked great!
After lunch, Dad went out into the garden. The grass needed cutting. He got the lawnmower out of the shed. It uses petrol. He filled it up using a small can and started the engine. He spent about an hour cutting the grass.
Then he decided to wash the car. He used a bucket, a sponge, car shampoo, and the hosepipe connected to the outside tap. The car looked shiny and clean afterwards.
On Sunday, he had one more job. My little sister's bicycle had a flat tyre. Dad found the puncture repair kit. It has small patches, glue, and little metal levers to get the tyre off the wheel. He found the tiny hole, cleaned the area, put on some glue and a patch, and pressed it down hard. Then he used a bicycle pump to put air back into the tyre. My sister was very happy she could ride her bike again.
Dad was tired by Sunday evening, but he looked pleased. He enjoys using his tools and equipment to repair things and keep everything working properly. I think it's a useful hobby!
Reading Tips: How to Get the Most from This Book
Read for meaning. Focus on understanding the main ideas rather than every single word. Encountering unfamiliar vocabulary is normal — use context to help you interpret meaning.
Keep a steady flow. Try not to stop too often. Reading continuously improves comprehension and helps you follow the development of ideas more naturally.
Listen and read together. Use the audio version while reading. This strengthens understanding, improves pronunciation, and develops your sense of rhythm and intonation in English.
Read regularly. Short, consistent reading sessions are more effective than occasional long ones. Re-reading sections you enjoy can further reinforce learning.
Engage with the text. Think about what you read. Asking simple questions and reflecting on ideas deepens comprehension and improves retention.
Extensive Reading Program - A2 Level
The Extensive Reading Program helps learners improve their English step by step, from level A1 to level C2. At the A2 level, students read simple texts that are a little longer and more interesting. They learn to understand the main ideas and talk about them with more confidence.
Reading regularly helps students learn new words. For this reason, the books, articles, and stories in this program are carefully written to include useful words and expressions for A2 learners. This helps students learn vocabulary naturally while they read.
Students can use this program by themselves or with a teacher in class. The levels make it easy to see progress, feel proud of improvement, and continue learning English through reading.
